Choosing the Right Wedding Favor.

by Sean Lamb

Today’s weddings celebrations are not complete without wedding favors on the table at the reception. These started out as small bags of sugared almonds and have grown into a huge variety of different and exciting gifts. Don’t be afraid, there are many companies offering a wide range of items, many that can be customised to you particular wedding, and choosing one couldn’t be easier. Below are a few of the popular ideas that you may like to consider, the final choice will be dictated by your wedding theme and your budget.

One option for an easy wedding favor, especially popular with the ladies, are flowers. Fortunately, as far as the bride and groom are concerned, apart from choosing which flowers to have, there is little else that needs to be done. A popular choice, is a single red rose which, as a symbol of love, is very fitting at a reception. Using a single rose per guest gives an appearance of style and the placing them, can be left to staff immediately prior to the wedding reception.

Sweets can be an easy wedding favor to arrange and there are a number of ways to give them, such as presenting each guest with a small tin or basket filled with different sweets. A simpler, but possibly more interesting method, is to present the sweets in a large glass bowl, then, provide each wedding guest with a small bag or box to place their favourites sweets in. This means that you won’t have to wrap anything yourself and it should be acceptable to everyone as they get to chose only the type of sweets they like.

A novel idea that will kill two birds with one stone, is a small picture frame which can be used on the day as placeholders. This is a great idea because wrapping this type of wedding favor can put many people off, especially when there are a large number of guests. Almost all receptions have place names at the tables for the guests, so this is an ideal way to present the frame without the need to spend time and more money on wrapping paper, which will only be thrown away, and that is not very ecologically friendly.

If you’re looking for a practical wedding favor, how about a drinks coaster? These can be matched to your wedding theme and customised to your own choice. Some will even double as a photo frame and could be used as place cards as well.

In the current thinking about global warming and carbon footprints, you may wish to opt for something eco-friendly. How about cards that are impregnated with flower seeds that can be planted after wedding? You will have a yearly reminder of the happy day when the flowers bloom. You can even get vegetable seeds for your hungrier friends.

The idea of a bottle stopper as a wedding favor, may seem a little off the wall. However, they do come in a broad range of styles and can be a practical gift, especially as people are monitoring their alcohol consumption nowadays.

Finally, an easy wedding favor with a little difference, if more expensive, is to use a local photographer to get each guest pose for a shot, which can then be presented to them at the wedding reception. It is a simple matter of bringing a printer along so that the images can be printed off during the reception and are ready when the guests start to leave. This is a way for everyone to have a wedding favor that will remind them of just how good they looked on the day. If the photographer can arrange a slide show, the guests not only get a personal memento but they also get the opportunity to see how the photos turned out for all of the other guests as well.
